Shakespeare’s Globe is an authentic reconstruction of the open-air playhouse first built in 1599, where the famous playwright worked and for which he wrote many of his greatest plays! After opening in 1997, the reconstructed Globe is today a working theatre and much-loved attraction for fans of The Bard.
Exhibition & Theatre Tour
The world’s largest visitor experience devoted to Shakespeare, the Globe’s Exhibition & Theatre Tour imagines the Globe as it would have been, surrounded by raucous taverns and bawdy-houses! Find out about extravagant Elizabethan costumes and how 16th-century musical instruments were used. There are also special temporary exhibitions that change throughout the year, with live demonstrations that bring Shakespeare’s world to life!
You will have a 30 minute guided tour of the Globe Theatre, with expert guided storytellers colourfully recreating stories of the 1599 Globe and the reconstruction process in the 1990’s.
Afternoon Tea Upgrade Option
Finish your tour in style by upgrading to include afternoon tea at the Swan at the Globe. This one-of-a-kind afternoon tea is inspired by Shakespeare’s much-loved A Midsummer Night’s Dream, and many of the sweet and savoury delights on offer can be traced back to the play — even the crockery on which the tea is served has been designed to reflect the play's whimsical themes. Sip a glass of prosecco and your choice of tea, and sink your teeth into a delectable selection of finger sandwiches, scones and cakes while you gaze out over the Thames River and St Paul’s Cathedral.
